2 PART MOLD STEP BY STEP REEL

How to Make a 2-Part Mold for Metal Clay Jewelry

Step 1:
Mix your putty

Mix a 1:1 ratio of white and blue putty until it becomes a uniform light blue color.

Step 2:
Form the base

Roll the putty to a size slightly larger than your metal clay design.

Step 3:
Press your design

Firmly press your (fully dry) metal clay piece into the putty to create the first half of the mold.

Step 4:
Create registration marks

Make small indents around the border of the puttyβ€”this helps the second half of the mold lock in place.

Step 5:
Let it cure

Allow the putty to set for 10–15 minutes.
Use the fingernail test: press your nail or a hard object into the sideβ€”if it doesn’t leave a dent, it’s ready.

Step 6:
Apply release agent

Spread a thin layer of Vaseline over the entire first half of the mold, including the metal clay piece.

Step 7:
Mix second batch

Again, mix a 1:1 ratio of white and blue putty until light blue, and roll it slightly larger than your design.

Step 8:
Create the second half

Press the new putty firmly over the first half, making sure it fills all the indents for a secure fit.

Step 9:
Let it cure again

Wait another 10–15 minutes and repeat the fingernail test to ensure it’s fully hardened.

Step 10:
Open and use

Carefully separate the two halves, remove your original piece, and your mold is ready to use!
