2 TECHNIQUES TO MAKE METAL CLAY JUMP RINGS
Technique 1: Individual Jump Rings
Step 1:
Roll your clay into a smooth “worm” at your desired jump ring thickness using a flat plastic roller.
Step 2:
If the clay starts to dry out, lightly rehydrate it with a watercolor brush.
Step 3:
Form a small overlapping circle with the clay.
Step 4:
Use an X-Acto knife to cut where the ends overlap.
Step 5:
Repeat steps 3–4 until the entire worm is used.
Step 6:
Let dry !
Technique 2: Coil Method (Batch Making)
Step 1:
Roll your clay into a smooth “worm” at your desired jump ring thickness using a flat plastic roller.
Step 2:
If the clay starts to dry out, lightly rehydrate it with a watercolor brush.
Step 3:
Wrap one end around a round object (like a paintbrush) to set your inner diameter.
Step 4:
Gently spin the tool to coil the clay—keep space between each wrap so they don’t stick.
Step 5:
Let the coil dry slightly, then use an X-Acto knife to cut a straight line down the coil.
Step 6:
Slide the jump rings off, and they’re ready to use!
